When even a seven-year old girl realizes that there is a problem with the an unequal and misrepresentation of gender in our societies, we have to admit that situation needs to be addressed.
If we look at the raw numbers of the percentage of males and females that fit into certain categories such as body size, outfits or even occupations in different sects of meadia, one thing is definitely clear, unequal representation and misrepresentation of genders is ever-present in our society. A report from USC was published a few years ago that details all of these stereotypes of women and gender roles in film. They make a very important point in the end: "By increasing the number and diversity of female leaders and role models on screen, content creators may affect the ambitions and career aspirations of girls and young women domestically and internationally."

Media is certainly not just constricted to films and magazines. It's all around us, subtly influencing our perspective on gender roles and this influence is present form a very early age. We should not be teaching kids to define themselves based on these stereotypes.
The influence of what children see on TV, in ads, online, ect., from an young age cannot be underestimated; the shows that we grow up watching and the ads we keep seeing make an impact on the way we see the world as adults. It is more important than ever to start bridging the inequality gender gap in media as well as to change the image of females as supporting roles to the main protagonists and sexual objects to human beings.
