Body over brains?
It is no surprise that the public would react in such a way when people are constantly exposed to photoshopped images of slender women that set the standard of beauty today. In a society that values appearance above all, women that are not skinny do not fit into the conventional stereotypical image of a Hollywood actress and therefore are shunned when they make it into the industry because of talent. This is a serious problem for intelligent and talented women, and even men, who are trying to enter into the industry but cannot because how they look is not considered "beautiful" or good enough. How can we ever fix this problem if the images present in media keep reinforcing the idea that not only are looks the most important assets but that only a certain kind of look is good enough?
